Les Coches - France
Altitude Range: 1250m-3250m

Ski chalets and skiing in the resort of Les Coches For many years, La Plagne resort has been popular with the British and it continues to be so of which Les Couches is part of. La Plagne manages to be purpose-built yet it has been built in a very careful way so as to avoid some of the architectural mistakes made in other similarly purpose-build resorts in the 70's.

La Plagne is actually made up of 11 different resorts that are spread out across the mountain area. Each one is a mini-resort in its own right, with shops, restaurants and bars. Each mini-resort is excellently linked to the ski area and to the other mini-resorts, with some of them actually situated on the piste (Aime 2000, Belle Plagne & Plagne Centre).

The area has a good snow record, especially with the Bellecote Glacier at 3250m, which towers above offering summer skiing too.

"excellent snow record and wide variety of runs"

The skiing in the area is an intermediate's paradise with lots of lovely wide blues and reds for which the term "motorway skiing" was invented. More advanced skiers will find a selection of blacks on the Bellecote Glacier, but other than this they may find the skiing limited.

Overall, La Plagne is an excellent example of a French purpose-built resort and is ideal for familes with its large selection of self catering accommodation. The excellent snow record and wide variety of runs makes it perfect for the majority of skiers.
